The entrepreneurial environment is changing rapidly and uncertain, in which risks and opportunities coexist. Entrepreneurs may gain success, fortune, reputation and status, but also may encounter setback and failure. Sometimes, entrepreneurs will encounter the dilemma of whether to persist to invest to a failing action in entrepreneurial process, and are easy to have the decision-making tendency of escalation of commitment. Escalation of commitment is a typical decision - making and judgment bias occurring in entrepreneurial process, which will directly impact the success and failure of entrepreneurship. In this study, the escalation of commitment is explored from the aspects of entrepreneurs’ affect and self-esteem, for which the experimental methods are adopted to have investigation on entrepreneurs, and the results show that there is significance difference in escalation of commitment among entrepreneurs with high self-esteem level and entrepreneurs with medium self-esteem level, and entrepreneurs with medium self-esteem level are more tend to escalation of commitment than entrepreneurs with high self-esteem level. Keywords: entrepreneurs, affect, self-esteem, escalation of commitmen

C-E Translation Strategies of Diplomatic Speech from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

    Get PDF
As a necessary part of diplomatic activities, diplomatic speech not only shows the political policy of the speaker’s country, but also expressestheir government’s attitude towards unilateral or multilateral relations. Therefore, there is no doubt that the C-E translation of diplomatic speech is significant. Under the guidance of Skopos theory and with the analysisof diplomatic speeches’ stylistic feature, this paper aims to figure out C-E Translation strategies of diplomatic speechby analyzing the speeches delivered by Xi Jinpingfrom the lexical, syntactical, and discourse level

Study on the Transmission of Chinese Culture From the Perspective of Big Translation

    Get PDF
This paper analyzes and studies the transmission of Chinese culture from the the perspective of Big Translation. Through analyzing the contents of Big translation   and the practical application of Big Translation in the transmission of Chinese culture, we find intralingual translation, interlingual translation and intersemiotic translation all play important roles in the process of cultural transmission. The purpose of this paper is to study how to spread Chinese culture effectively. With various examples, it is concluded that big translation is an important way to promote the effective spread of Chinese culture. We should attach importance to big translation and use it to promote cross-cultural communication and cultural transmission

The Influence of Language Policy and Planning on Intercultural Education in China

Intercultural education, as an important aspect of English learning, is set as one of the fundamental teaching principles in Chinese schools. This paper incorporates three sociolinguistic concepts “language policy and planning”, “language ideology” and “cultural identity” into the discussion of intercultural education in China. Three practical suggestions are also proposed to facilitate intercultural education for English learners in China

An Automatic Statistical Segmentation Algorithm for Extraction of Fire and Smoke Regions

    Get PDF
Estimation of the extent and spread of wildland fires is an important application of high spatial resolution multispectral images. This work addresses a fuzzy segmentation algorithm to map fire extent, active fire front, hot burn scar, and smoke regions based on a statistical model. The fuzzy results are useful data sources for integrated fire behavior and propagation models built using Dynamic Data Driven Applications Systems (DDDAS) concepts that use data assimilation techniques which require error estimates or probabilities for the data parameters. The Hidden Markov Random Field (HMRF) model has been used widely in image segmentation, but it is assumed that each pixel has a particular class label belonging to a prescribed finite set. The mixed pixel problem can be addressed by modeling the fuzzy membership process as a continuous Multivariate Gaussian Markov Random Field. Techniques for estimating the class membership and model parameters are discussed. Experimental results obtained by applying this technique to two Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) images show that the proposed methodology is robust with regard to noise and variation in fire characteristics as well as background. The segmentation results of our algorithm are compared with the results of a K-means algorithm, an Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm (which is very similar to the Fuzzy C-Means Clustering algorithm with entropy regularization), and an MRF-MAP algorithm. Our fuzzy algorithm achieves more consistent segmentation results than the comparison algorithms for these test images with the added advantage of simultaneously providing a proportion or error map needed for the data assimilation problem

Very Rich Asians: How Does Acculturation Transform the Status Consumption of Wealthy Immigrants?

    Get PDF
Do wealthy consumers practice their status consumption differently after immigration? If yes, what’s their motivation behind the transformation. Although previous consumer acculturation studies have investigated immigrants’ consumption behavior, they have only focused on mass consumption, and few of them have discussed the role of social class. Besides, the existing status consumption theory does not account for immigrating consumers. This thesis investigates the transformation in wealthy upper-class Chinese consumers’ post-immigration status consumption behavior in the process of consumer acculturation by using concepts from Bourdieu’s field theory. Results show that Chinese immigrants’ cultural, social, symbolic capital devalue after moving to the United States, which differently affects their status consumption behavior. Also, their social class, as well as their economic capital before and after immigration, mediate the transformation process. This thesis contributes to extend both consumer acculturation theory and status consumption theory by proposing a model of dynamic status consumption
